Meet Mrs. P.
Spanish was my first language. Growing up in a single-parent family, where my mom
always worked two jobs; my care was left up to my amazing "nana" from Durango,
Mexico. I learned English later. Because I loved her so much, I also loved the
language she spoke.
I came to teaching later in life because I spent the first part being a full-time wife,
mother, and volunteer. Since I married a man from Chihuahua, Mexico, who didn't want
our children to lose what he considered to be their birthright, we spoke primarily Spanish
in our home. Being fluent Spanish speakers continues to open doors daily for me and my
three grown children. That is why I am so passionate about sharing this gift with as many
children as I can.
After I was widowed, I made the decision to follow my life-long dream of becoming a
certified bilingual teacher, specializing in 3-6 year-olds. Going to college in my 50's was
daunting, but I had a clear vision of what I wanted to do. I graduated and was certified in
2016, and immediately hired at a small Christian school. As part of my contract, I was
given the opportunity to create and lead an after-school Spanish enrichment course for the
school. They anticipated mild interest, but within a month, I had 30 students enrolled and
a waiting list in place.
My Spanish Program continued to grow until the COVID Pandemic stopped face-to-face
classes. Parents were unwilling to stop the momentum they were seeing in their children,
so I made the decision to take my classes online via Zoom - and here we are!
